What are dentures?

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth. They rest on the gums and replace the teeth you have lost, so you can chew, speak, and smile with more confidence. At Harmony Dental Care in West Covina, we make custom dentures for patients who need to replace a few teeth or a full arch.

A well-made denture is shaped to match your gum color and tooth shape. Your dentist uses careful impressions and measurements so the fit stays secure during everyday eating and talking.

Who are dentures for?

Dentures can help adults who have lost some or all of their teeth. Your dentist will look at how many teeth are missing, the health of your gums and jawbone, and how your bite comes together. These details decide which type of denture fits your needs.

Types of dentures we offer

Full (complete) dentures

Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper arch, the lower arch, or both. They are custom-crafted from acrylic or premium materials that match your natural gum color.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace several missing teeth while keeping your remaining natural teeth. They use a metal or flexible framework that clips securely to nearby teeth for stability. Many patients choose a partial when only a few teeth are missing.

Immediate dentures

Immediate dentures are placed on the same day as tooth extractions, so you do not have to go without teeth during healing. Your gums change as they heal, so these dentures are adjusted over time to keep the fit comfortable.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures are anchored by two to four dental implants. Compared with traditional removable dentures, they offer more stability, better chewing power, and help preserve the jawbone. Our team can explain whether this option fits your situation. You can read more on our implant and All-on-4 pages.

The denture process: what to expect

Most custom dentures take three to five appointments over several weeks. Each visit has a clear purpose.

  1. Exam and treatment plan. Your dentist checks your teeth, gums, and jaw, then reviews the options with you.
  2. Digital imaging and impressions. We use 3D digital X-rays, 3D scanners, and digital impressions to record the exact shape of your gums and jaw. Some patients also have traditional impressions when that method suits their case.
  3. Bite registration. This step makes sure your upper and lower jaws line up properly when you close.
  4. Try-in appointment. You preview the fit, shape, and appearance before the final denture is finished. This is the time to tell us what you like and what you want changed.
  5. Final delivery and adjustments. Your finished dentures are placed, and we adjust them until they feel comfortable and stable.

If you need extractions before your dentures, we offer local anesthetic, numbing gel, warm blankets, and noise-canceling headphones during those visits.

Cost, insurance, and payment

The cost of dentures depends on the type you need, such as a partial, a full set, or implant-supported dentures. Your exact cost depends on your treatment plan. We will go over the fees with you before any work begins.

Dental insurance

Many dental plans include some coverage for dentures, but the amount depends on your specific plan, its waiting periods, and its yearly maximum. We cannot promise what your plan will pay, so we recommend checking your benefits before you come in.

Harmony Dental Care accepts:

  • PPO and Indemnity plans, and most major dental insurance plans
  • Medi-Cal, Denti-Cal, and Smile California, where we handle authorizations and claims
  • CalOptima dental, as a direct provider, so no referral is needed

If you have Medi-Cal or Denti-Cal and want to know whether a partial denture is covered, ask us. We will check your plan’s rules and tell you what we find.

Complimentary insurance check

We know insurance can be hard to follow. Call us before your visit and we will complete a free insurance eligibility check for you, so you know what to expect.

Financing and payment options

If you have a balance after insurance, we offer flexible financing with monthly payment plans for elective and major procedures. Options include CareCredit, Sunbit, Alpheon, credit cards, and our in-house membership plan. Ask about these options during your visit.

For patients without insurance, our $59 New Patient Special includes a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays, and a professional cleaning. It is a good way to get started and learn what your next steps are.

Caring for your dentures and what to expect afterward

In the first few weeks, your mouth needs time to adjust. Some soreness is common, and your speech may take a short time to feel normal. Your dentist will schedule follow-up visits to adjust the fit as your gums heal and reshape.

Good daily habits help your dentures last. Most dentists recommend removing and cleaning dentures every day, rinsing them after meals, and storing them in water or a denture solution when they are out of your mouth. Keep your gums, tongue, and palate clean, too. Your dentist will give you care instructions tailored to your denture type.

If a denture feels loose, sore, or uneven, call us. Small problems are easier to fix when they are caught early.
